Meditation

You don't have to be or become a Buddhist to participate in the activities at Upaya Vihara; everyone, yes, really everyone, is welcome. The meditations and movements are secular, non-religious. When there will be an in-depth discussion about Buddhism, I will announce it in the calendar, and even then, everyone is welcome!


By meditating, conditions and circumstances arise that allow us to engage with life in a different way. It means something different for everyone: one person may become kinder, another may find it easier to make choices, and yet another may feel more focused. Meditation, in any case, has an impact on our daily life, our relationships with others, and also with ourselves.


At the moment, we offer guided meditation (body, breath, and loving-kindness) for beginners, and (more) advanced practitioners are of course welcome. Be sure to check here regularly for new dates!

What are the costs?


To cover our expenses, we ask for 5 euros per activity. At the location where the activity takes place, there will be a "dana bowl" where you can make an additional contribution to help continue our activities. We will evaluate this system based on the principle of giving what you can or want.

Movement

Movement is beneficial for the body, mind, and our well-being. When we begin to move more consciously, we can also experience it more intensely. The experience takes us away from incessant thoughts, dissatisfaction, and emotional overwhelm. As modern human beings, we think that we live many experiences, that there are no limits, and that everything is possible. But what do we actually feel in our bodies? By constantly rushing from one place to another and seeking to experience things in an almost forced way, we experience very little, if anything at all, and are left with a sense of unfulfillment. What we often do then is seek more of the same, thinking that this time it will help us. This is completely human and normal.

During this activity, we will move more consciously. These are movements that anyone can do, whether lying down, standing, or sitting. Reconnecting with our body is beneficial and rewarding. A few moments a day, a few breaths every hour done consciously, can make all the difference.
